There is a high water table around the structure of the basement. What do I need to be careful of?

When deciding on your waterproofing (design), you will need to be wary of creating a perched water table and also putting the structure/waterproofing under stress. This is more of a risk if there is a high water table. Added to this, there is a higher risk of a large amount of water ingress. You must consider - if water comes in, where will it be collected and directed to? Is there a chance that a power-cut may compromise the pump? If this is the case, then it would be worthwhile specifying and installing a battery back-up sump and pump system, such as the Sentry BB (http://www.cellars.co.uk/products/aquadrain-drainage-channel-and-sump-systems).
