Basement Waterproofing Products

Cellars.co.uk is a website of Safeguard Europe Ltd., one of the UK's leading suppliers of waterproofing products to the construction industry. Details about Safeguard's full range of waterproofing products can be found on the Safeguard Website, www.safeguardeurope.com.

The basement waterproofing products featured on this website fall into two key product ranges, Vandex cementitious waterproofing products and Oldroyd cavity drainage membranes.

Vandex Cementitious Waterproofers

Vandex waterproofing slurries are cementitious powders that are mixed with water before being applied by trowel or spray. Once cured, they form an impermeable barrier that prevents the ingress of water. Vandex waterproofing slurries have a wide range of applications in the construction industry, however the following slurries are commonly used in basement waterproofing projects:

Vandex Super

Vandex Super is a "crystalline active" waterproofing slurry specifically designed for use on concrete. When Vandex Super is applied to the concrete surface it reacts with the free lime in the concrete to form insoluble crystalline complexes. These block pores and minor cracks in the concrete, making it waterproof. Each 25Kg bag of Vandex Super covers over 16m2 making it extremely economical in use. Vandex Super can be applied by brush or spray.

Vandex BB75

Vandex BB75 is the best-selling tanking slurry in the Vandex range and is widely used on cellar conversion projects. It is typically applied by brush or spray to form a waterproof layer that bonds to the underlying substrate.

Vandex BB75E

Vandex BB75E is an elasticised version of Vandex BB75 that benefits from enhanced flexibility and crack-bridging properties. It is typically used as a primary waterproofing system for newbuild basements and at the floor-wall junction detail in basement conversion projects. Vandex BB75E is supplied as a 25Kg bag of standard Vandex BB75 with a 10 litre pack of Vandex PK75 elasticiser. Mixing these two products produces Vandex BB75E.

Vandex Unimortar 1

Vandex Unimortar 1 is a waterproofing and repair mortar that can be applied in layers of 6mm - 12mm thickness. This allows basement conversion projects to be completed with a single coat - saving time and labour costs. Unimortar 1 is also commonly used to form a waterproof fillet at wall-floor junctions and on kicker joints.

Oldroyd Cavity Drainage Membranes

Oldroyd cavity drainage membranes are dimpled membranes that are designed to provide a dry basement environment by diverting water rather than physically holding it back. On externally waterproofed basements, Oldroyd membranes are typically used as a secondary drainage layer to provide additional protection for the primary waterproofing system (e.g. Vandex Super or Vandex BB75E). When used internally, Oldroyd membranes are applied to walls and floors to redirect any water entering the basement to a sump and pump. For further details see our cellar conversion and newbuild basement pages.

Oldroyd Xv Clear
Oldroyd Xv Clear is a semi-transparent cavity drainage membrane that is widely used to waterproof basements internally. It is a popular option for basement conversion projects.

Oldroyd Xv20

Similar to Oldroyd Xv Clear (above) but with extra-large 20mm studs to provide a higher flow capacity. Often specified on basement floors and on the walls of large commercial basements. Oldroyd Xv is black and benefits from Oldroyd's multi-layer-technology allowing 40% recycled plastic to be used in its manufacture with no loss in performance.

Oldroyd P Plaster Membrane

Oldroyd P is a similar product to Oldroyd Xv Clear (see above), but with a polypropylene mesh welded to one side of the membrane. This mesh allows plaster or render to be applied directly to the membrane once it has been installed.

Oldroyd Gtx

Oldroyd Gtx is a cavity drainage membrane with a geotextile filter fleece welded onto one side. Its main function is as a drainage layer for external basement waterproofing applications. The geotextile fleece filters out 'fines' from the groundwater.

Aquadrain Drainage Channel / Safeguard Sump Systems

Aquadrain drainage channel is laid around the floor-wall junction as part of an internally-applied cavity drainage system. This provides additional drainage capacity where the basement is most vulnerable to water ingress.

Safeguard sump systems are pumping solutions specifically designed for use with Oldroyd cavity drainage membranes in basement waterproofing applications.
